Blink

Privacy

What we collect, how long we keep it, and who can see it.

Overview

Last updated 29 September 2026.

This policy explains what Blink collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. It covers the Blink app and website, including share pages and live rooms opened in a browser, and it’s part of our terms of use.

The short version: we collect what we need to run the app, we don’t sell your information, and you can download your data or delete your account from Settings.

What we collect

Account information: your email address, your username, display name, bio and profile picture, and the interests you pick.

Your date of birth, which we ask for once at sign-up to check that you’re old enough. We store it encrypted and never show it to anyone.

Content: your posts, comments, poll votes, direct messages, room messages, reactions, and any reports you send us. Photos and videos have location and other metadata removed before anyone sees them.

Device and usage information: a push token if you turn notifications on, a random install id used for rate limits and to enforce bans, your time zone, and basic device details such as the model, OS version and app version, sent with crash and analytics reports. We also record which posts you see and for how long. This ranks your feed and gives authors reach counts, nobody else sees it, and it’s deleted after 90 days.

If you read Blink without an account, or open a share page or a room in a browser, we see your IP address and set a browser cookie, which we use to prevent abuse. We store the IP address only in hashed form.

Masks: other users see a mask on masked posts. Inside our systems your account is always linked to your content, which is what makes blocking, moderation and enforcement work. That link is never shown to other users.

How we use it

To run the service: sign you in, show your posts, deliver messages and notifications, run rooms, and keep your archive.

To rank your feed, using what you look at and the interests you picked.

To keep Blink safe: moderate content, act on reports, restrict and ban accounts, and keep records when the law requires it.

To fix problems and understand how the app is used, through crash reports and product analytics.

To comply with the law, including responding to valid legal requests.

We don’t sell your personal information.

Who we share it with

Service providers that help us run Blink, such as hosting, database and sign-in, media storage, email delivery, push notifications, crash reporting and analytics. They process data only to provide their service to us, and the providers we use may change. If you sign in with Apple or Google, they confirm your identity and pass us your email address or a relay address.

Law enforcement and other authorities, when the law requires it, when we receive a valid legal request, or when we believe someone is in danger.

A new owner, if Blink is ever sold or transferred. Your data would stay covered by this policy, and we’d let you know.

Some accounts and posts on Blink are run by Blink itself to keep the feed active. They’re marked as ours in our systems and don’t interact with your content.

Your data is stored in the United States. If you use Blink from another country, your data is transferred to the United States, and it may be accessed from other countries for support and moderation.

How long we keep it

Posts leave the feed after 24 hours and stay in your archive until you delete them.

When you delete something, it disappears from the app immediately and is erased from our systems within 90 days. We keep it that long so that a report filed just before deletion can still be reviewed. During that time only moderation can see it.

Content that has been reported is kept while the report is open, and content we removed for breaking the rules is kept with the report. Where US law requires us to preserve reported material, we do, and those holds override everything else on this page.

Other data has its own limits: feed viewing data 90 days, hashed IP records up to a year, closed reports two years, and sign-in sessions 60 days without use.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account from Settings. Your profile, posts, comments, messages, friends and settings are removed from the app immediately and erased under the rule above. We keep the link between your account and the masks you used, moderation records, and anything under a legal hold, for moderation and legal purposes only. If your account was banned, we also keep a hashed copy of your email address so the ban sticks. None of this is ever shown to other users.

A permanently banned account can’t be deleted until the ban is lifted. You can appeal.

You can download a copy of your data from Settings.

Your choices

You can turn notifications off, keep your profile private, delete any post, block anyone, download your data and delete your account from Settings. For anything else, including asking what we hold about you or correcting it, email hello@sayblink.app. We’ll confirm the request came from you first.

If you live in California or another US state with a privacy law: we don’t sell or share your personal information as those laws define it, and we don’t use it for targeted advertising. We won’t treat you differently for exercising your rights.

Children

Blink is for people 18 and over. We don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 18, we’ll close it and delete its data. If you think someone under 18 has an account, email safety@sayblink.app.

Security

Data travels over HTTPS, media is stored privately and served through expiring links, and your date of birth is encrypted. No system is perfectly secure, so we can’t guarantee it. If a breach affects your data, we’ll notify you as the law requires.

Changes

We may update this policy. If a change materially affects you, we’ll let you know in the app or by email before it takes effect.
